Employee Relations Specialist

Site/Program: Central

HELP USA is one of the nationís largest homeless services providers and low-income housing developers serving at-risk populations including families, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence. With an annual operating budget in excess of $100 million, HELP USA currently serves 25,000 people annually in 54 programs and residences across five states and is continuing to grow. HELP provides 3,500 units of permanent and transitional housing as part of its 30-year commitment to families and individuals in need of safe, stable homes.

Position Overview

As part of the Human Resources Team, the Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for all employee and labor relations, including investigations and advising management regarding disciplinary actions providing direction and expertise to prevent and mitigate employee risk and ensure compliance with governmental and other regulations. Assists with the administration of all assigned day-to-day operational functions, contributing to the development of employee relations strategies and policies, and serves as a backup resource for on-boarding, off-boarding, unemployment, and coaching and counseling employees and management at our sites on relevant issues and policies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assists with investigations and interviews with employees concerning employment issues/complaints.

  • Participates in investigations and responds to complaints of alleged harassment, discrimination and Title VII, ADA, ADEA or Equal Pay Act complaints filed with various state and federal agencies as necessary.

  • Prepares investigative documentation, including interview notes and summary of findings.

  • Utilizes Employee Relations Case Management System to manage cases from intake to resolutions.

  • Reviews and responds to performance management and corrective action documents.

  • Educates management on Employee Relation processes and procedures.

  • Contributes to the strategy development for Employee Relations and EEO issues/concern.

  • Provides solutions and advises on employee relations strategies and risks including, but not limited to employee terminations, adverse impact, severance & outplacement services, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and investigatory techniques.

  • Conducts training on ER related topics (professional conduct, handling performance issues, EEO highlights, policies and pitfalls, etc.)


  • Bachelorís Degree in Human Resources or a related field, required.

  • One to three (1-3) yearsí experience in a Human Resources position, employee relations experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ADP experience preferred

  • A hands-on team player with superior interpersonal and communications skills

  • Ability to forge effective working relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the Company.

  • A proactive professional with strong consultative skills and the ability to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, conceptual ability and judgment.
