Position Overview

As the Clinic Nurse at our Suffolk family shelter, you’ll work under the supervision of the Director of Health Services and in collaboration with other team members to provide direct and indirect patient care to all family members. This is a semi-autonomous position, and care must be provided in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards, policies, and procedures. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting health screens on all family members.

  • Triaging patients of various ages for urgent/emergent care.

  • Establishing and documenting patient treatment regimens and referrals under supervision of the RN.

  • Facilitating and assisting in the coordination of patient referrals.

  • Collaborating with members of our social services team.

  • Following up on obtaining immunization records for children living in the shelter.

Requirements

  • NYS Registered Nurse.

  • BLS/CPR certified.

  • Strong clinical assessment skills.

  • Knowledge of community-based medical resources.

  • Knowledge of all HIPPA and privacy requirements.

  • Prior experience working with under-served populations and knowledge of social service resources a plus.

  •  Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work within a team setting.

  • Must maintain own malpractice insurance.
