Group Teacher

Position Overview

As a Pre-School Teacher, you’ll work within the framework of NYC Department of Health Article 47 and Head Start Performance Standards to develops and implement an appropriate daily activity schedule for young children and running the day to day routines of the classroom.  You’ll develop a program of educational goals appropriate to the age and developmental level of the children, which will enable them to make the most of future educational opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the planning and execution of a program to provide an educational program that takes into account the educational, social, developmental, and health needs of the group as well as the individual.

  • Developing appropriate limits for children and dealing with limit setting in accordance with the Discipline Policy and Procedures and DOH Article 47.

  • Overseeing the professional growth and development of the classroom staff through regularly scheduled individual and classroom conferences based on daily observation of staff’s performance within the group and the applications of new skills acquired through training and experience.

  • Attending at least three trainings per year in the field of early childhood education.

  • Developing and implementing a plan for sharing information concerning the children and the program with the parents while respecting the confidentiality of all information about children and parents.

  • Ensuring that documentation and record keeping are kept up to date and filed appropriately (Lesson Plans, Assessments, Anecdotes, Meal Counts, Attendance, etc.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with a Master’s Degree strongly preferred

  • NYS Teacher Certification (Initial, Professional, or Permanent) or a study plan working toward certification as indicated in DOH Article 47 Regulations.

  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
