Employee Relations Specialist

Site/Program: Central
Location: New York, NY

What You’ll Do

Use your HR skills to help people experiencing homelessness!

As Employee Relations Specialist with HELP USA, you’ll be part of a cohesive HR team supporting 1400 employees working in our homeless shelters, homelessness prevention programs, and permanent affordable housing.  You’ll report to the HR Manager and be responsible for employee and labor relations including conducting investigations, advising management regarding disciplinary actions, providing direction and expertise to prevent and mitigate employee risk, and ensuring compliance with governmental and other regulations. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting investigations into employment issues and complaints – conducting interviews with employees and ensuring that you ask probing questions and dig deeply enough to understand and resolve matters under investigation.

  • Using our Employee Relations Case Management System to manage cases from intake to resolution and thoroughly document investigations, including interview notes and summary of findings.

  • Providing solutions and advice on ER strategy development and risks including terminations, adverse impact, severance and outplacement services, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and investigatory techniques.

  • Educating management and conducting training on ER policies, processes, and procedures.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field.

  • One to three years’ experience in a Human Resources position (Employee Relations experience would be ideal).

  • Ability to forge effective working relationships at all levels throughout the organization.

  • Proactive approach, strong consultative skills, flexibility, creativity, conceptual skills, and great judgment.

  •  Strong Microsoft Office skills, with ADP experience preferred.
